Gov't releases over Shs3 billion for bush war civilian veterans
Government has through the Office of the Prime Minister (Luwero-Rwenzori Portfolio), has announced the release of shs3.04billion to civilian veterans of the 1986 bush war that brought NRM to power.
The announcement was made by the State Minister for Luwero Triangle, Alice Kaboyo.

The released funds will benefit 1,269 recipients who were cleared by the Veterans Verification Committee under the 51st schedule from the districts of Luwero, Nakasongola, and Nakaseke.
“The verification process has been rigorous to ensure that only deserving individuals receive these funds,” said Minister Kaboyo.
She said that the program's inception in 2008, government has verified and paid 87,269 beneficiaries as the initiative acknowledges the support and contributions made during the liberation struggle from 1981 to 1986.
“Akasiimo is not commensurate to one's contribution but rather a 'thank you' in recognition of one's contribution,” Minister Kaboyo emphasized.
“We owe this gratitude to His Excellency the president, who in his wisdom established the Akasiimo Programme in 2008.”
The minister also assured that the Veterans Verification Committee would continue its efforts to verify civilian veterans who have not yet been considered.
“My office will ensure that allocated funds for Akasiimo are paid to the right beneficiaries,” she stated.
For transparency, the lists of the 1,269 beneficiaries, including their names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), amounts received, sub-counties, and districts, will be displayed on the notice boards of the respective beneficiary districts and the Luwero Regional Office.
